Enlisted in the U. S. Army in May, 1942. Assigned to the 18th Infantry Regiment of the First Infantry Division (The "Big Red One"). Captured by the Germans on December 23, 1942 at the Battle of Longstop Hill just outside Tunisia in North Africa. Somehow survived 28 months of captivity and was repatriated in April,1945. Died the next year.
