PROMINENT SERVANT OF PUBLIC DIES
John F Kramer Dies After Operation At Plymouth
MEMBER OF BOARD -- Elkhart Lake Member of county Board Who Was a Member of the County Sanatorium and the County Road and Bridges Committees Upon Which Her Served Faithfully and Efficiently, Summoned..
John F. Kramer, Elkhart Lake, member of the county board and prominently identified for the past several years with public interests in Sheboygan County, died in the Plymouth hospital at 5 p.m. Wednesday. Mr. Kramer underwent an operation last Thursday in an effort to save his life, but he was unable to rally and died after having been unconscious most of yesterday. Apparently he had been in good health until a short time ago because he took an important part in the work of the county board during the session which came to an end early this month.
As supervisor from Elkhart Lake and a member of the county sanatorium committee and the county road and bridge committee his public duties were exceptional heavy. He served two full years on each committee, having been elected to the sanatorium committee at the time of its inception. Many obstacles had to be overcome in making possible the erection of a county tuberculosis sanatorium, and the thoroughness of Mr. Kramer's work, his faculty for giving careful consideration to every problem, made him one of the most valuable members of that committee.
The same is true of his efforts on the road and bridge committee. Mr. Kramer was elected to that committee again this fall by a unanimous vote of the county board members. His first term as a member of the county board was begun in 1929 and he served continuously since that year.
John F. Kramer was born March 12, 1862, in the town of Rhine, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Philip Kramer. On Feb. 19, 1889, he was married to Miss Marie Henschel, daughter of Carl Henschel of the town of Russell, and for seven years the couple made their home on a farm four miles northeast of Elkhart Lake. Then they moved to Milwaukee where Mr. Kramer served as a member of the revenue force, but after a year and a half they moved to St. Lawrence where Mr. Kramer became storekeeper and gauger in a distillery. Ten years later Mr. and Mrs. Kramer moved to Elkhart Lake, their home since that time.
The survivors are his mother, Mrs. Margaret Kramer, Elkhart Lake; his wife; five children, John H. Kramer, who lives on a farm near Elkhart; Mrs. Arthur Reiss, who lived two miles east of Elkhart, Clarence Kramer, at home, Mrs. Ernst Meyer, Elkhart, and Miss Ella Kramer, Sheboygan, three brothers, Peter and Henry Kramer of Elkhart and Louis of Dallas, Tex.; two sisters, Mrs. Fred LaBudde, Elkhart, and Mrs. Arthur Doland, Kiel; five grandchildren. One son, William, died twelve years ago at the age of 21, and another son, Alvin, died in infancy.
Mr. Kramer belonged in the Modern Woodmen of America and the Elkhart Lake fire department. Until word has been received from Louis Kramer, Dallas, Tex., definite funeral arrangement can not be made. Members of the family expect the funeral will be held Sunday afternoon, with services at the home and at St. John's Evangelical church. The Rev. F. W. Zeh will conduct the services.
