GRANDSON OF REVOLUTIONARY WAR CAPTAIN JOHN GEORGE OVERMIRE

WAR OF 1812 VETERAN

John Overmyer (aka John of Pickaway) was probably born in Northumberland Co., PA. Previously, he was thought to be the son of John Peter Obermeier, but recent research confirms that he was, in fact, the son of George III and Mary (Rearick) Overmire. It has been reported that cemetery records show he was born Jan. 25, 1781 and died Jun. 8, 1858. This has been confirmed by the dates shown in the photograph of his tombstone (courtesy of RoxAnne Sweany), which spells the last name "Overmyer."

John married Marie Barbara Gensel. He served in the War of 1812 under Gen. William Henry "Old Tippecanoe" Harrison, who later became President of the United States.
