Elkhart Lake-Ernst H. Mayer, 47, passes away at St. Nicholas hospital this morning after an illness of two weeks following an operation. Born Nov. 4, 1896, in the town of Rhine, Mr. Mayer is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Adolph Mayer. He was married to Miss Anna Kramer on Dec. 17, 1921 in Elkhart Lake, where the couple has resided for the past 17 years. Mr. Mayer has been the marshal and street commissioner of Elkhart Lake for the past five years. Previous to that he was employed for eight years at the Farmers' Mercantile and Supply Company.
Surviving him are his wife, one son, Earl, a motor machinist's mate, second class, stationed with the United States Navy at Houston, Tex.; a daughter, Evelyn, at home, five brothers, Harvey of Manitowoc; George of town Schleswig; Ervin of New Holstein; Elmer of Sheboygan; Melvin of Elkhart Lake, and one sister, Mrs. Elmer (Norma) Anhalt of Kiel. One sister preceded him in death.
Mr. Mayer was a member of the Elkhart Lake volunteer fire department and the Herbert Hasler American Legion Post No 261 of Greenbush.
Funeral services will be conducted at the Raeder Funeral home and at the Community Evangelical and Reformed church. The Rev. Otto Scheib will officiate.
